Mission successful?
On 14 April 2025 at 8:30am Texas time, the Blue Origin rocket with its first all-female passengers and crew launched for a short jaunt into space. We can speculate that the intention of the space tourism trip from passenger Katy Perry’s words: “It’s an important moment for the future of space travel, for humanity in general, and for women.” Others are claiming it as a feminist milestone. But despite returning safely after 10 minutes in space, the public reaction has been largely negative. Let’s take a look at the chart of the space excursion.
The fiery Aries is in the ascendant, its nature is adventurous and it represents the ignition of the fire and start of a new cycle – lift off! With the Sun exalted by its placement in Aries to show off.
Notice the cluster of planets in the house of foreign lands and liberation? This area of the chart represents the furthest place we can get away from our place of birth. Space it is. Included in that pile-up is an exalted Venus, representing women and travel in general, very tightly tied to Saturn and Rahu, both linked to the air element. When a planet is exalted, such as this Venus, it wants to “be seen” publicly for the things it signifies.
All looks good so far, why the negative publicity?
Two primary reasons:
Mercury, the planet of communication, is debilitated and not functioning well being placed in boundaryless Pisces. Poor messaging. When the words do come out they are received as egotistical (the second house from Mercury is egoic Sun), and elitist (wealthy Jupiter is Taurus in the second house of resources and speech). Criticism of the space jaunt has focused on its messaging and timing - “an expensive recreational activity rather than a scientific mission amid a period of heightened economic anxiety.”
Name and fame are seen from the ascendent sign where lord of Aries, Mars, is debilitated in Cancer. The Moon, representing the public, rules watery Cancer and extinguishes the fire of fame. Courage is not rewarded, and reputation is marred. Even the US transportation officials came out with a statement: Perry and fellow passengers are not astronauts.
